European Medicines Agency to Wait for Data Before Recommending Vaccine Mixing

The European Medicines Agency will wait for more data before releasing definitive recommendations on the proposed mixing of COVID-19 vaccine doses, according to a Wednesday news release.

The EU regulator noted preliminary data from studies in Spain, Germany and the UK in which the vaccine mix and match demonstrated a “satisfactory” immune response with no safety issues.

Furthermore, the EMA said it is “too early” to confirm if and when a booster shot against COVID-19 will be needed, citing insufficient data on how long the immunity granted by the vaccines lasts.

The health agency expects to quickly evaluate new evidence on booster shots once available.
